We are so thrilled to share an update with you on our multi-year effort to improve carbon monoxide boating safety and awareness in Utah. After many years, emails, meetings and calls with local congressmen and the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, we finally have some tangible results.
Every year (for the past 60+ years), the Utah Division of Parks has circulated a version of the Boating Highlights booklet. For the past 60+ years, there has never been more than 1-2 sentences about Carbon Monoxide risks while boating (without any graphics).
This year (for the first time ever), because of your emails, calls and pressure on our local congressmen over the past few years, the Boating Highlights now include 4 FULL PAGES (pages 22-26) of CO safety and awareness information, including some extremely helpful graphics.
The Boating Highlights are distributed online and in person at boat dealerships/service centers, DMV offices, kiosks/contact centers at water bodies, boat shows, etc. Put simply, the Boating Highlights are the most widely circulated and central boating materials provided by the Utah government to Utah boaters and the Utah boating industry. We're thrilled to now take up 4/32 of the pages.
The Division of Parks and Recreation is now also working on larger display panels with CO safety info and graphics for marinas, docks, conferences, and boat shows. No results yet on this front, but we are optimistic.
